The Tramway du Mont Blanc which normally carries around 110,000 passengers a year, has been closed due to strike action from staff over a controversial subject. The tramway is a historic part of the Chamonix Valley that tourists flock to see and the strike action, especially at the busy time of year, has caused some controversy across the valley.
The Mayor of Saint Gervais, Jean-Marc Peillex, stated in a recent press release that ‘personal conflict jeopardises one of the jewels in the crown of the Haute-Savoie and that with pollution in the region being at an all time high recently, clean transport such as this should be utilised.’
If you are visiting this New Year it should be on your list of things to do!
